Chaohu University

Chaohu University，one of the Anhui provincial full time schools of higher learning, is situated in Bantang Sanatorium District of Hot Springs, one of the most famous towns of hot spring water in China, Chaohu city, in the middle of Anhui development zones. It stands near to the Chaohu Lake, one of the five biggest fresh water lakes in China. On the shores of Chaohu Lake and close to the foot of Tangshan Mountain, the university is considered as having a very preferable learning and teaching environment, which was named as “The National Model Unit in Promoting Cultural and Ideological Progress” and “Anhui Provincial Campus Garden”. Founded in 1977, Chaohu University is a state-run provincial institution which was originally known as Chaohu Teachers College before 2002. And after that, on April 2004, we got promoted by the ministry of education as Chaohu University now, under the jurisdiction of Anhui commission of education.
Chaohu University now sets 11 departments, including Literal and Communicational Department、Department of Arithmetic、Historical, Tourism and Literature Department、Foreign Language Department、Physical Department、Educational Department、Art Department 、Economical, Management and Law Department、Computer and Information Engineering Department 、Chemical and Life Sciences Department、Electronic Engineering and Electric Automatization Department, and three other related department, including Ideology and Political Theoretical Teaching Department、Elemental, Experimental and Practical Department, School of International Education and Exchange. And we now provides 37 regular (four-year) college-level majors, including Chinese Linguistic Literature, History, English, Art Theory, Design, Tourism Management, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Physical Education, Inorganic Nonmetallic Material program, educational technology, computer science and technology, electrical engineering and automatics, Applied Chemistry, International Economics and Trade, marketing management, Primary Education, Social Sports, Law, Public Affairs Management, Advertising, Electronic Info Program, Applied psychology, Info and Arithmetic, E-commercial, Journalism, Micro-electronics, Motion Picture, Musical Performance, Science and Technology of Electronics, Chemical Engineering and Technics, Networ.k Engineering, Info Management and System, Mechanism Design and Automatization in liberal arts, science, engineering, history, education, management, economy and laws. Having a long tradition of conscientious teaching and learning, CHU enjoys a very good reputation both at Chaohu City and Anhui province. At present, CHU has a full-time enrollment of about 12,263 undergraduates and adult education enrollment of about 1,000 students.

        

CHU firmly holds to the educational attitude of ‘seeking truth and performing pragmatism, being active in progressing and innovation’, thus making magnificent achievements in research and teaching. Some of the specialties have their advantages in research and teaching, such as physics, applied chemicals, Chinese language and literature, history, fine arts and physical education. In the past several years, the college was financial-supported in building of five key specialties, three key labs, and two experimental specialties in course reforming at provincial level. Nevertheless, it has thirteen top quality courses and five distinguished specialties with some of them at provincial level; and one provincial modal experimental base and three provincial teaching groups.

The teaching quality got promoted continuously in the recent years, and our students got awarded in the national level or provincial level in electron design contest, science permeation, math modeling contest, English contest and art demonstration. As one of the result, the quality and quantity of graduates’ occupation have been greatly improved. The employment rate has been keeping more than 97% in recent years.

We have a faculty of more than 750 with nearly 600 full-time teachers including 170 professors and associated professors as well as a group of young and middle-aged outstanding lecturers. There are 58 teachers with a PH. D. degree and 393 with a master degree (includes those studying for the doctorate or master) which responsible for 65% of the total teaching faculty. With their love and devotion to their careers, the teachers of CHU have won many awards at the provincial and national level, including being cited for “The Experts of Chaohu City”.

The campus covers a total area of 860,000 square meters with a construction area of about 300,000 square meters. The total green area is 400,000 square meters. We have an integrated construction idea, which is combine the natural environment with the educational surroundings, so that the campus view could featured with our own specialties and rational choices.

There are 65 labs of various subjects with the total value amounts to 50,000,000 RMB Yuan. The library has a collection of 700,000 books, and two publications of “Journal of Chaohu University” and “Newspaper of Chaohu University”. At present, CHU has established 55 fieldwork bases with 6 at provincial level. Moreover, CHU has developed eight research centers which play a leading role in the course of promoting research and teaching.

        

The college has been successively awarded the following titles beyond provincial level as “The National Model Unit”, “The National Model Unit in Promoting Cultural and Ideological Progress”, “The National Model University in Social Practice”, “The National Model University in Art Education”, “Garden University”, and “The Model Unit of Forestation”.

In order to cater to the requirements of internationalization, CHU continues to establish significant cooperative relationships with many distinguished overseas universities in South Korea, Japan, the United States, German, and Australia.

In July 2008, our university was authorized to receive the oversea students by the Anhui education administration. And we start our exploration and research in the management, education, and service of oversea students gradually. The School of International Exchange and Education was set up as well this year to strengthen the international cooperation and communication, to perform a better work of receiving, educating, servicing and managing the oversea students, to provide the surroundings to make the students study happily and living comfortably.
